Day 2
Amman – Madaba – Greek Orthodox Church of
St. George – Mount Nebo – Dead Sea
After breakfast at our hotel we drive via
the King's Way to the
Dead Sea,
stopping at
Madaba,
and
Mount
Nebo.
Madaba
is a Christian city, home to a number of
beautiful old mosaics the most spectacular
of which is a 6th Century map of the Holy
Land residing in the Greek Orthodox Church
of St. George and comprising two million
pieces of stone.

Mount
Nebo
is the place from which Prophet Moses viewed
the Holy Land, having led his people from
Sinai.
It is said that he also died and was buried
here.
The West Bank city of
Jericho
is usually visible from the summit of
Mount
Nebo,
as is
Jerusalem
on a very clear day.
Upon reaching the
Dead Sea
we will have plenty of time to float in the
mineral-rich water and to relax on the
private beach. Perhaps we will take a
therapeutic black mud bath?
We take our dinner and stay overnight in a
hotel overlooking the
Dead
Sea.

Day 3
Dead Sea – King’s Way – Petra
Today we have the morning free to spend at
our leisure at the
Dead Sea
resort.

After lunch, we travel down the scenic
King's Way to
Petra,
stopping en-route to view the great canyon
that holds the Dana Nature Reserve.
We will have dinner and overnight in a hotel
in
Petra.
Day 4
Petra
Petra
is a treasure of the
ancient world and definitely a highlight of
any trip to Jordan.
It is hidden behind an almost impenetrable
barrier of rugged mountains and boasts
incomparable scenes making it perhaps the
most majestic and imposing ancient site
still standing today.

It is the legacy of the
Nabataeans, an
industrious Arab people who settled in
southern Jordan more than 2,000 years ago
and who carved their new capital out of the
rose-red Sharah Mountains.
The site contains refined culture, massive
architecture and an ingenious complex of
dams and water channels.

For our first hours in
Petra
we will have an
English speaking guide who will show us
round the numerous highlights including the
Treasury (El-Khazneh) which has an
intricately carved façade glows in the sun,
the amphitheatre, and the Royal Tombs.
For the remainder of the day you will be
able to wander at your leisure; one monument
leading to the next for kilometer after
kilometer.

The sheer size of the city and quality of
the beautifully carved facades at
Petra
is staggering,
almost overwhelming and there are over 800
individual monuments in total, including
buildings, tombs, baths, funerary halls,
temples, gateways, and colonnaded streets to
admire, mostly carved from the kaleidoscopic
sandstone by the technical and artistic
genius of its inhabitants.
At the end of the day you will walk back
past gift shops where you can buy a souvenir
or gift to accompany your treasured
memories. We will drive to a hotel in
Petra
for our dinner and an
overnight stay.

Day 5
Petra – Siq Al Barid (Little Petra) – Al
Beidha - Wadi Rum
We have a free morning in
Petra
to either rest and
recuperate or else re-visit the ancient
site.
We can then visit
Siq Al
Barid (Little Petra)
and
Al
Beidha.

After this we will transfer to
Wadi Rum
for
a day of horse riding on its enchanting
pink and white desert sands.
Travel in
Wadi Rum
is a journey to
another world, where one can escape the
worries of everyday life and return to
nature and the simple life. In this immense
space, man is dwarfed into insignificance.

Vast, silent and timeless,
Wadi Rum
possesses one of the
most beautiful desertscapes in the world.
Our Jeep safari will take in
Thamudic
inscriptions, burial
mounds, ancient megaliths, and ruined
buildings;
Nabataean rock
carved stairways, dams, and temples all seen
within a unique and surreal moonscape
environment.

This night, we will camp with local Bedouin
in a deluxe campsite and eat the
traditional, freshly prepared, Jordanian
food provided by our genial hosts.

Today, we have a hearty buffet breakfast at
our campsite to prepare us for a full-day of
horse riding.

British Officer Lawrence of Arabia we head
towards the village of
Wadi Rum,
taking in Wadi Umm Ishreen and Siq Al
Barrah.

With a professional horse guide we discover
the delights of the Moon Valley and horse
ride through some of the most beautiful of
all Jordan's landscapes.
We will have dinner at our camp and sleep
out under the clear, star-studded sky.
